Helen Garvey writes under the pseudonym Girl With a Dirty Mind. She focuses most of her creative erotica on her sex life. She has come a long way since quitting her administration job in August 2008. Without any professional writing experience, she has received many rejections from agents and publishers, but she has never given up and continues to push herself. One of her first writing roles was as a copywriter reviewing adult entertainment sites. She confirms that the most interesting of these sites were the erotic photography sites.
She first submitted several of her erotica tales to The Next Big Writer and gained great feedback, most of which detailed how her stories were original and unique but required more descriptions, interesting dialogue, and character development. It was there that she met her ex-lover, Keith. He was so dazzled by her erotica and open sexuality that he recommended she write The Sexual Mind.
After sending several queries to Literary Agents who dealt in non-fiction, she received great feedback from London Literary Agent, Robert Smith, whose clients include Amanda Barrie, The Hamiltons, and Theo Phaphitis, and many others. As a way to gain publicity for herself, she wrote a romantic 6000+ story for Playboy—Audacious Angel. They responded after six months but by then, Helen was working on the Sexual Mind and thought nothing of the late response. In March 2010, Helen gained an eBook contract by New York Publisher, Freya’s Bower, but due to the mental fogginess caused through The Dark Night of The Soul and no focus to develop her characters and storyline in her 100+ erotica stories, she thought it was only fair to decline the contract.
Although, Helen loves to write erotica and would love to full time, she also writes freelance. Her work is published on Suite 101, Guppy Weight Loss, GenXXL, eHow, 3 Fat Chicks, Diet Review Planet, and Accredited Supplier.
She has suffered minor setbacks with her writing from 2010 to present as she has undergone a spiritual purging through the Dark Night of The Soul, which she is writing of. Her motivation and concentration has wavered from her goals, but now she is gaining strength and going to work toward her many publishing goals. Future projects include a horror novel, murder/sex novel, a fitness and weight loss book, and ways on opening up the mind from its limitations in her spiritual book.
Writing is the only thing Helen feels motivated toward. In the past, she dabbled with holistic therapies after opening Tranquil Times for two days a week, while she worked full time for The Learning Partnership. She offered Indian Head Massage, Reiki, and Swedish Remedial Massage, but she felt it wasn’t her path. Helen has struggled to find her true life path, but she finds writing therapeutic and worthwhile. She has also studied the very early stages of personal training, but did not stick at this, even though she has a love of fitness. Youth Service was also an area of interest for Helen, but too many rejections in this field made her feel it wasn’t worth the pursuit.
After two years of joining the very competitive field of writing, she is still very much focused toward her goals. She doesn’t want to be world famous, but she does have a dream; to set up a charity to help mentally ill patients off dangerous and often harmful medications, and to buy a cottage in a quiet countryside. Oh, and to purchase a classical purple mini.
