Up A Dry Creek is a book that’s a great mixture of crime thriller, romance and erotica. Our heroine is Claire Layton, a no-nonsense businesswoman who owns a restaurant, the Harvest Bistro in Dry Creek, Nebraska. It’s hard work, but she loves everything about it – until one night she finds a dead body in the dumpster out back one Saturday night. As if that weren’t bad enough, the killer is now demanding that Claire finds the victim’s phone and flash drive, or there will be fatal consequences. Terrified, Claire doesn’t know where to turn, or what to do for the best.
Soon afterwards, an incredibly cocky and yet smoking hot private investigator turns up to examine the case. To start with, Claire just wants him gone. That is, until she finds out that he’s searching for exactly the same thing she is. They become unlikely allies and a fiery attraction springs up between them. It’s a love/hate thing for sure, but as their task becomes more complex and frightening that they’d ever imagined, they’re forced to work together and find the killer quickly, before someone else gets hurt.
Up A Dry Creek was a very enjoyable read. It hooked me in right from the beginning. I loved the two main characters and how they were portrayed, as well as how they dealt with the events thrown at them. The sexual tension between them was also good fun, and I found myself looking forward to finding out how it would be resolved. The plot was packed with exciting twists and turns, making this a real page turner. A few editing issues added minor blips to my enjoyment every now and again, but on the whole I thought this was a great read, and I look forward to reading the next in the series, and more from Avery Flynn.
