As part of the Riptide Publishing Grand Opening blog tour, I’d like to welcome Aleksandr Voinov.
Take it away, Aleksandr:
What draws you to romance?
I’m interested in relationships. Some people say as dark and twisted as I am, I’m really a romantic at heart.
Do you prefer alpha/omega relationships in stories, or alpha/alpha relationships, and why?
I’m in favour of the alpha/alpha relationships. They don’t have to be equals in all ways, but each one needs to bring their specific strength to bear. I like competent people that fight for what they want. Whiny, passive characters turn me off, and I don’t write them.
Have you ever written outside the romance genre? If not, do you ever plan to?
I’m coming from the mainstream fantasy and thriller genres, originally, and all my main characters were gay or bisexual and had a same-sex relationship and plot going while doing whatever else it was they were doing. So, I’ve always written plotty romances, even back when, just with less time spent on that plot. These days, I completely embrace the romance and give it more space. Which turns me into a romance writer.
What’s the sexiest feature on a man to you? And on a woman? Why?
Both genders: necks and throats. Women: Long hair. Why? Uhm. I’m just wired that way.
What’s your own sexiest feature?
By night you’re a caped crusader, romance writer. What do you do by day?
I’m an editor in an investment bank in London, UK.
What’s your earliest childhood memory?
Let’s not go there. Nothing good.
What was the very first romance you ever read?
Some really, really horrible historical romance in German. It was awful.
How old were you? Were you being naughty and sneaking it off the shelf before you really even knew what sex was?
My friend bought it and raved about it. I thought it was horrible, but the sex was well-written, so I skipped the boring bits.
How did it make you feel, and is that what hooked you on the genre?
It made me laugh and sneer and no, I didn’t get hooked on it. It was simply too badly written to hook me.
Who are your latest crushes (celebrity, book character, or otherwise)?
I tend to crush on my own characters. Right now, that would be Silvio from Dark Soul, and William Raven from Lion’s Share.
Tell us about your release for Riptide:
Here’s the blurb:
A killer’s moral compass rarely points true, and among made men, being gay is a capital crime. But Silvio Spadaro, deadly prodigy and heir to a Family fortune, is determined to find his own way—at the feet of the man he loves or by the barrel of a gun—no matter the dangers or costs.
