Sexy and Dangerous – Putting Paranormals Together by Kiki Howell
I love to set up stories where different types of paranormal creatures interact. It is an exaggerated form of pitting different personalities together. I like to see how their strengths and gifts can interact, keep pushing to the danger zone, or depending upon the society I’ve put them into, push them to break the rules. No where is this more enticing than when you mix two paranormal creatures in the bedroom.
In one of my latest releases, Love, Creativity & Magic: A Steampunk Valentine’s Day Tale, I put a vampire and witch together. To work toward their cause, the vampire taught the witch about sex magick – that he learned of from her grandmothers grimoires he had stolen! His strength, his mystery, his knowledge against her virgin magick (in more ways than one here) was so intense, so thrilling to create. Especially in this story where I made it so that vampires could suck not only blood from witches, but also their magick.
Here is how Emma sees it in the story:
Her mind went through the ominous and the seductive possibilities before her. As one
of the walking dead, beyond his threat to the blood, which coursed through her veins, a
vampire could suck from her the energy that made her magickal. Be that as it may, the
chance to be at the mercy of this man was alluring nonetheless in a way she could not
possibly comprehend or explain. He was so much stronger than her, dangerous even,
and this excited a place in her that even she didn’t know existed. It was juxtaposed to
everything she did, stood for. She may use her gifts, even at times at the expense of
others, to rebel against social morals and rules, but she wasn’t reckless. Yet, the idea of
giving herself to him, naked and wanton, made her feel even stronger.
In my At War in the Willows series, I went about things a bit differently. I think I got even more intensity for it, but the storyline is much darker as well. In Book 1, The Vampire’s Witch, I had vampire speed, their lethal bite against the brute strength of a werewolf as well as the magic of witches. In this case, the witches are very powerful, spontaneous magic, and at the ready to protect themselves against the vamps and weres they were told to stay away from. I made the vampire able to feel the magic, feel out of control, a dangerous thing for a being who can easily give in to his bloodlust. The sex was tricky, sometimes fierce even. But again, I tended toward the dark side.
Let me give you a glimpse into Isaac and Winter:
One draw of blood into his mouth, and her hips violently trembled. She cried out, but rather than sensing her pleasure, he felt she was casting a spell on him. Her magic poured over him, through him like blood through his veins. He felt her climax as it traveled deep into his groin, filling the area with pleasure. His cock was rock hard, waves of contractions flowed through him. Thoughts, not his, entered his head, my Goddess, Isaac Roberts, just made me come!
He pulled back. Staring at her, he only realized he’d left the wound marks open on her thigh when blood dripped onto his leg. He licked over tiny holes to seal her flesh, to let it start to heal, before turning back to confront her.
“You did that on purpose. You pushed thoughts into my head.”
“Yes. Mind games. I’m a witch. I’m brilliant at them.”
What I always love the most though when mixing these paranormals together is the witch’s touch of fear of being drained, of being overcome by his strength *pants* while the vampire holds back some of his lusts, some of his strength, and yet trembles a bit to know she can control him with her magic. Both have something to fear, some amount of trust to give to each other, or they could destroy each other with sex. Oh, and did I fail to mention the impact a bit of magic can have on an orgasm? *grins wickedly*

Blurb for Love, Creativity & Magick: A Steampunk Valentine’s Day Tale:
All acts of magick take on shades of gray in the end. Especially for Emma, one of four females witches who by birthright belong in the social circles of the privileged upper ten thousand in London. Yet, by rumor of the unknown and the misunderstood, she stands apart, cut by her peers along with her cousins, because they hold a secret—each is gifted with magick.
Their elders had taught them respect for their powers even when mixed with a spanking amount of fanciful mischief. On the other hand, if a lesson was warranted, then white verses black magick could be hard to define. No where was the color of steam more evident than in the matters of justice, a slippery term to define. Yet, they’d made breaking the laws of society their mission. Most of their nights at parties and balls were spent creating a magickal comedy of errors, helping the uptight aristocracy side step their fastidious standards.
Only this year, days before Valentine’s Day, a damnable day for women without suitors, Emma is not quite sure what is happening to her. Something dark and seductive, something not of this world, is luring her, possessing her, and she has no comprehension of what or who the presence really is. But, when he does show his face finally, and she feels him to be a night walker, she must fear not only the threat he poses to her blood and to the energy or magick he can suck from her, but also the danger he poses to her heart. After all of these days feeling him, wanting him, she has to wonder if her feelings are just a matter of his compulsion, if she is under this vampires own type of magick.
To complicate matters further, the vampire’s propositions are as exciting as they are scandalous, to teach her how to power her magick with the overabundance of sexual energy she bears. But, how he knows such thinks he remains elusive about. And there is the added attraction that this vampire was a failed inventor in life, one with a basement full of contraptions she finds she can power through the use of her sexual energy. Valentine’s Day seems like it could be all kinds of fun this year now.
Yet, in these days of social unrest and out-of-control creativity, what is a witch to do with a vampire? When Valentine’s Day rolls around, and a secret is revealed, what will be left for her?

Blurb for the At War in the Willows Series:
The Willows is a resort town run by vampires, werewolves and witches. Here, their true identities are kept secret from humans, and intimate relations between the individual clans are strictly forbidden.
When it becomes known that the vampire Amberlyn has fallen in love with the werewolf Kane, the tedious line of their co-existence has been crossed. Caught in the crossfire of this revelation, Drake, the vampire clan leader and Amberlyn’s maker, is killed along with an innocent witch. These deaths spark a series of horrific events leading to an all out War In The Willows.
In Book 1, Amberlyn’s vampire brother, Isaac, always one to kick ass first and deal with the consequences later, kidnaps a witch, Winter. He intends to find out what type of retaliation the witch clan is planning against the vampires and werewolves. In doing so, he finds so much more then he bargained for.
By Book 2, Isaac and Winter devise a plan to try to get the Elders of the clans talking peacefully.. But, things don’t go as they’d hoped, and the fighting between the clans becomes more devious – deadly. Now, Devin, another vampire of Drake’s making, steps in to help pick up some of the pieces.
When Book 3 begins, it is Devin who hides the biggest secret; he’s in love with a local human. In a moment of desperation – of love – Devin sweeps this human, Sara, away to his home in order to keep her out of harm’s way.
Unexpected close encounters, bodies ripe with need, and situations beyond their control lead to forbidden relationships. Now three vampires, a witch, a werewolf and a human must ride along the edges of the rules. They will attempt once unthinkable romantic entanglements despite all those who oppose their relationships while fighting for their lives as well.
With the Willows full of violence and bloodshed, meetings and magic amiss, will the clans ever be able to find peace among them again? Or, will this war destroy the Willows?
