I had the idea for the story that became UNDER HIS TOUCH quite some time ago. A Twitter friend inspired me, in fact. She loved reading BDSM books and talked to me at times about wanting to find a man who could act out those kinds of things with her. But, as a young, single woman living in London, she didn’t know how to go about finding someone. More, she didn’t want just sex, but a loving, permanent relationship.
It made dating that much more fraught for her.
Her story captured my attention and I imagined how that might go – and how things might go wrong. The romance writer in me wanted the right man to find her, to be maybe someone she worked with, who saw the dangerous path she followed and rescue her from it.
By the time I finally went to write the story, I knew this man would be the young woman’s boss. In a nod to my friend, I made him British, with all the correctness and reserve that comes with it. Alexander Knight came alive on the page with more than that. He’s a passionate, even obsessive man, still struggling with the emotional aftereffects of a devastating divorce. My heroine, Amber, emerged on the page as quite a bit more assertive than I’d thought of her all that time. She’s passionate also, but light where Alec is dark. She embraces her sensuality and, ultimately, she’s the one who won’t take no for an answer.
Though the way isn’t easy, in the end Amber gets exactly what my friend hoped for.
Crossing my fingers for her, too.
Amber Dolors knows better than to get involved with her boss. Devastatingly handsome in his sharp suits and sexy beyond belief, he possesses an air of command that fuels her darkest fantasies. But she’s worked too hard to get this job, and keeping it will lead to a brilliant future. She won’t cross that line—even if his way of giving orders and demanding her best performance gives her delicious warm shivers.
Alexander Knight prides himself on his integrity and self-discipline. After all, he hasn’t risen to the position he enjoys by indulging his whims over ambition. He also isn’t blind. He’s certainly noticed his sharp, young assistant is hot as hell. His self-imposed sexual hermitage doesn’t stop him from watching her. And endlessly fantasizing.
The day Alec’s cool reserve cracks and Amber catches a glimpse of something simmering beneath his apparent indifference is the day everything between them changes. Alec gives her what she’s been looking for sexually—as masterful in the bedroom as he is in the boardroom. He finds himself in the grip of an affair that tests even his boundaries, while Amber’s new role as willing student pushes them both past any consideration other than mutual longing.
“Kennedy seamlessly mixes domination play and genuine equality without ignoring the potential problems that kink and romance could bring to the couple’s power dynamic at work and vice versa.” ~ Publisher’s Weekly
