Here’s an author interview with Girl With a Dirty Mind.
Find out what she had to say…
- How did you start writing erotica?
I used my diverse mind to turn my lover horny and I was told that I had a talent for writing. This developed my confidence and I started writing professionally from then on.
- What’s your favorite published work of yours and why?
I have written a lot of hot stories, some I will have to rewrite as they contain famous singers. I do love Fancy Dress Bondage Party. I received some fantastic comments from authors on that piece, which I need to develop further. As this is not currently published as an erotica single, I would have to say The Sexual Mind. Seeing it in print has given me the faith to continue as a writer.
- What erotic authors do you enjoy reading?
I like reading the horny stories on Shokolada’s website.
- Where do you draw your inspiration from?
My own sexual experiences. I always request permission from my lovers, and most of them star in a couple of tales. I also like to think of a random place and create a sexy storyline. I have used kitchens, voyeurism, thunder and lightening, swinging parties, bondage, food play, and so many other scenes. I also don’t make my characters “perfect,” as nobody is in this world.
- Do you have any unusual writing rituals?
I try to write when I feel inspired, and this is often during the middle of the night. It is tough to force the mind to create erotica pieces when not in the mood, and I have found it difficult over the past twelve months to develop each of my stories.
- Where’s your favourite place to write?
I like to write in my bedroom. It contains a lovely vibe where I have performed years of meditation with crystals, and it has a lovely view of the birds and trees outside.
- Who is your favourite character from one of your stories and why?
Heidi in Bad Habit as this was based on my experience with a married man whom I truly fell for, but he treated me like a fling so I ended it. Throughout this, we are still really good friends.
- Do your nearest and dearest know what you do, and if so, what was their reaction when they found out?
Yes, I have a supportive family, although they have not read any of my works. My mother does not want me to write erotica, she thinks I will get into trouble, but I have an explicit mind so why not use it? I also have a supportive friend in Rachel, whom I am trying to inspire to write her own book on her dating rituals.
- What was your ideal career when you were a child?
I have always felt stuck in my career. I jumped straight into an office junior role at the age of 15. At the age of 19, I became a typist and switchboard operator. I was dismissed from this job for punching an employee (it’s a long story), and since life my life went downhill. I was bullied when working for the council because of my often-eccentric look and I rebelled. I have also tried massage, Reiki, personal training, and youth work. I started writing tales of my sexual experiences and have loved it ever since.
- How do you get yourself in the mood to write?
I like to write when I feel inspired. Although this might not be a good thing to do, I enjoy writing after an intense orgasm.
- What’s the best writing tip you’ve ever been given?
Learn to show not tell and try to limit swear words unless it is really necessary.
- If you get writer’s block when you’re writing, how do you get around it?
I rest and try not to let it get me down. Music is my motivator.
- If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?
Electrica based on Comic Book Legend, Electra and she’s one of the female characters in Fancy Dress Bondage Party. She is sexy, knows what she wants, and always gets her man.
- Which author, erotic or otherwise would you love to meet and why?
I have no specifications; I am open minded to meet any author, erotic or otherwise.
- What’s your favourite genre within erotica and why?
I like erotica food play and domination stories. I like the thought of a dominating a male and food play heightens the senses, creates sensuousness, and it’s not viewed as “perfect” sex as I like to get down and dirty in my stories.
- What are you working on at the moment?
I am developing over 100 erotica stories, which will cover a total of half a million words when completed. I am also working on a spiritual novel of my experience through The Dark Night of The Soul named You’ve Got The Power.
- What’s the biggest writing challenge you’ve ever taken on? Did you succeed?
Toning down my level of explicit erotica to write a 6000-word story for Playboy. According to their website submission, they stated they would send a response in 6-8 weeks, but I actually sent two submissions and did not receive a response until six months later. I have sent other experimental stories to erotica magazines following their submission guides and still been ignored, although the websites state that they will always respond to correct submissions sent. I find this rude and unworthy of my time.
- What’s your biggest writing achievement? Why?
Gaining the attention of a London Literary Agent who liked the concept of my guide, The Sexual Mind. Although he hasn’t contracted my works, this has given me so much confidence in my abilities as I am a Virgo star sign and my own worst critique.
