THREE REASONS I LOVE WRITING EROTICA BY MIA DE ROSSI
It’s pretty obvious why people read erotica. I mean, what’s not to love (or lust after), right? You have the extremely hot hero who wants nothing but to please his partner and bring him or her to the most delicious climax of his or her life. But have you ever wondered why erotica authors like to write the racy stories you love to devour? Read on and wonder no more.
1. It keeps our creative fields well-plowed. That’s not a euphemism for anything naughty. I just mean that, when you write sex, you have to always research what you think your readers might find titillating. There are things authors themselves haven’t tried or won’t have the opportunity to try (female authors will likely never wear a cock ring, for instance), and research gives us the knowledge we need to write what we “know.” We can read firsthand accounts on the internet and slowly begin to understand exactly what sensations the character would experience in specific situations. Well done erotica is well-researched, and learning about new things (even sexy new things) keeps erotica authors fresh and on their toes.
2. Writing happy things makes us happy. Authors tend to live in their characters’ heads too much. Writing about sad, lonely characters makes us sad, too. But writing about great sex and a happily ever after (or a happy for now) ending makes us smile. We like our characters to have fun and live life. It makes us feel like we’re living vicariously through them, even though we may be stuck in our offices, typing away, while everyone else is at the beach.
3. Erotica is great for our sex lives. It’s true—erotica authors worth their salt won’t put in a sex scene they don’t find sexy themselves. Which means we spend a good portion of the story in a state of arousal. Inevitably, we need a release (hey, we’re weird but we’re human, too). This makes our partners very, very happy. Enough said. 😉
