Guest Blog: Lashell Collins

I’d like to thank Lucy and everyone at Erotica For All for inviting me to guest post today so that I can share my story, Pierced By Danger. It is book one of a trilogy and it centers around Detective Joshua Pierce who encounters the beautiful and wealthy Samantha Colby after she is assaulted one night. And I was thinking about Joshua as I was wondering what exactly to blog about today, and it made me wonder why I had chosen to write about him specifically. Why did I make the hero of my first novel a cop?

What is it about a hot guy with a badge and a gun? I’m not really sure but, it’s a combination that I personally can’t seem to resist. Perhaps it’s the uniform? Admittedly, that was part of the initial appeal when I first met my husband, who was a Police K-9 officer (he’s now retired). We had something of a whirlwind courtship, and just three months later, we were married. It was all very crazy and very romantic at the time. Very much like a romance novel.

So is it any wonder then that when I finally sat down to write my first novel that I would choose to make my hero a sexy Police Detective? Granted, Joshua Pierce doesn’t wear a uniform and his partner is not of the four-legged variety. But he sure does look good with that badge clipped to his belt and the gun in his shoulder holster framing his broad, ripped chest. Of course, those piercing blue eyes and that take-charge attitude don’t hurt either. But is there more to it? What exactly is it that makes a hot cop so deliciously swoon-worthy for me, and so difficult to pass up?

Maybe it’s the air of authority that most cops seem to have. Confidence can be a very sexy thing. There’s nothing like a man who knows what he wants and he goes after it. Or maybe it’s the aura of mystery that they project – that feeling that they know things and have seen things that the rest of us will never understand. Or maybe it’s that sense of honor that they seem to carry so effortlessly on their broad, muscular shoulders, and the assurance that the good guys will never give up, no matter how bad it gets, and will keep fighting for what’s right again and again. Or it could be that unselfish willingness to go above and beyond to protect the safety of others. Knowing that he’ll be there to protect you in any situation. After all, women love to feel protected and nurtured by a man. The thought that he would go out of his way to ensure that you feel safeguarded. Treasured even. That’s heady stuff…

“What are you doing here?” she says softly, and her voice sounds surprised. Disbelieving.

I blink at her question and take a deep breath. What am I doing here? I look into her big green eyes and answer her honestly. “The same thing I was doing at your apartment last night,” I shrug. “I want you to feel safe.”

She stares at me for what feels like forever, saying nothing. “Josh,” she finally whispers. “This was such an incredibly sweet and thoughtful thing to do. Thank you,” she says softly, her eyes searching mine.

“You are most welcome, Samantha.” It starts to rain softly then and we both glance up at the sky. “Come, let’s get you home,” I say opening her car door.

“Are you going to follow me home too?” she asks with a small smile.

We are standing on either side of her open car door, just inches away from each other. “Yes,” I answer her. Again she just looks at me, as if she’s trying to figure me out.

“I didn’t know the Seattle PD provided such service,” she jokes quietly.

“To serve and protect, ma’am,” I respond with a smirk, holding her steady gaze.

To serve and protect. That’s what makes a cute guy with a badge and a gun so freaking hot! At least, to me anyway.
