Interview with Kiru Taye

Here’s an interview with Kiru Taye, as part of her Passion Shields blog tour. Take it away, Kiru…

 

How did you start writing erotica?

Great question. I didn’t have a light bulb moment when I started writing erotic romances. I have always enjoyed reading romantic novels with steamy scenes and when I starts writing romance stories I knew I would never lock the love scenes behind the bedroom door. I just wasn’t that kind of writer. And with time the scenes have become steamier depending on the characters and stories.

What’s your favourite published work of yours and why?

Honestly. This is like asking me which of my 3 children is my favourite. Impossible to choose. I love them all. 🙂

What erotic authors do you enjoy reading?

I love discovering new authors every day but I enjoy books by Doris O’Connor, Natasha Blackthorne and Kenya Wright

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Two words. Google images. LOL

Do you have any unusual writing rituals?

Not really. Except that I like a quiet room when I’m writing.

Where’s your favourite place to write?

Laptop on my lap, sitting up in bed.

Who is your favourite character from one of your stories and why?

My favourite character has to be Benjamin Moss from the Passion Shields series. Not only is he sexy as sin and deliciously dominant, he is also an intuitive man who goes to extraordinary lengths to earn Selina’s trust. That’s a tall order because when we first meet Selina in Scars, book 1 of the series, she really has no trust for anyone, not even Benjamin whom she’d just married.

Do your nearest and dearest know what you do, and if so, what was their reaction when they found out?

LOL. I’m not a spy or secret agent. Of course they know what I do. It’s a job like any other and I’m proud of it. So are they.

What was your ideal career when you were a child?

Writing great books.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

Characters who materialise in my mind and insist I tell their stories. It’s either I write or I go insane. I know which I prefer. LOL

What’s the best writing tip you’ve ever been given?

Read. Read. Read. The best thing I ever did as an author was love reading.

If you get writer’s block, how do you get around it?

I try and relax. Watch movies or read books. Even a simple thing like sitting in a coffee shop can trigger scenes in my mind.

If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?

I would love to meet Christopher Star from the Passion Shields series. He is Benjamin Moss’ best friend and business partner. He is such an enigma but so much fun too. I’d love to hang out with him for an evening.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently editing Riding Rebel, The Essien Trilogy book 3, which is out end of January 2015. It is an erotic contemporary romance set in Nigeria.

What’s the biggest writing challenge you’ve ever taken on? Did you succeed?

When I started out writing the Passion Shields series, it was a huge challenge because it was my first attempt to write an erotic series. 3 books later and I think it’s been successful. Well, I hope the readers think so.

What’s your biggest writing achievement? Why?

Getting a Breathless Press to sign my first ever published book and series. His Treasure, Men of Valor, book 1 and the rest of the Men of Valor series, is a historical romance series set in pre-colonial West Africa. To my knowledge it is the first ever published historical romance series with purely African characters published by a non-African publisher. His Treasure won the 2011 LR Cafe Book of the Year. 🙂
