I adored the first book in this series, A Forbidden Rumspringa, so eagerly pounced on this when it became available. If you haven’t read the first book, I recommend you do so before reading this one, or even the review as I don’t want to give any spoilers.
In book two of this trilogy, David and Isaac have arrived at Isaac’s brother’s house in San Francisco, after fleeing their Amish life in order to be together. They’ve both had small tastes of the “English” life previously, but are in no way prepared for exactly what to expect of the wide world. This makes for some very cute and amusing reading – I found myself smiling a lot at some of the experiences the boys have as they’re trying to get used to their new lives.
However, despite having left their Amish roots behind, things aren’t simple for David and Isaac. Isaac seems to adjust to “English” life more easily, going to school and making friends, whereas David finds it much harder, especially as he can’t let go of the guilt he feels at leaving his family behind. Their past won’t entirely let them go, either, and while they can now be openly together and share a bed at night, other complications could actually drive them apart.
This was another amazing read from Keira Andrews. I enjoyed finding out what happened to the boys next, how they cope with their new life, and so on. As I mentioned previously, there are some very amusing parts where the boys are confused by the modern world, but there is also lots of angst, guilt, emotion and, of course, hot sex. A Clean Break felt very real, and I whizzed through it in no time at all, as I was so eager to find out what happened next. It does end on a little bit of a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds in book three.
