I was chatting to a friend earlier today and she told that Mills and Boon were on the verge of bankruptcy before e-readers became popular. Apparently the advent of e-readers meant that people were finally able to enjoy reading a romance without everyone around them knowing what they were reading, and this saw their sales in an often-scorned genre increase exponentially. I don’t know if there’s any truth in that – a swift search on Google didn’t give me any information either way – but certainly it’s true that the UK’s once most popular erotic line, Black Lace, was resurrected to publish ebooks and is now going from strength to strength.

Three Real Life Sex Toys From The Boss by Abigail Barnette
Much to my chagrin, hot English billionaire Neil Elwood isn’t real. Trust me, I’ve wished hard enough and it’s just not happening. But some of the toys featured in the series are! I can’t tell you about them without revealing some details about the series, but think of them not as spoilers, but teases.
The Screaming O lipstick vibe This thoughtful gift from Neil gives Sophie one of the naughtiest ideas of her life! Featured in The Boss, it’s also a part of the giveaway you can enter during this blog tour. I was looking for something quirky and fun that Neil could give Sophie as a present, and when I stumbled across this, I knew it was perfect. Sophie works at a fashion magazine, so the theme of the gift was a shoe in. The company makes a whole line of novelty sex toys designed to look like make-up. In The Boss, Neil buys Sophie the entire collection.

Most people are motivated by something. Whether it’s money, power, success, love, staying healthy, looking good…the list goes on and on. But when motivation becomes too strong, then we’re tripping into the wonderful world of obsession.
And that’s where everything gets so much more exciting.
Beckoning Blood is a book about obsession. Vampires obsessed with blood, Olivier obsessed with Thierry, Thierry obsessed with Etienne, the Duke obsessed with revenge on Olivier, and Olivier obsessed with killing anyone who remotely resembles his father.

Finding the Selkie in Chincoteague, Guest Blog by Nara Malone (@nara_malone)
I had the publisher’s approval for Make Me Wet, a selkie (a mythical being that shifts shape between seal and human form) tale, before I wrote the first word. I had the research done, the plot down, the characters drawn. I had everything but the words. And I fought to find them for a couple of months before admitting to myself that something was missing. In this story setting was a character and that character was proving particularly hard to connect with.

Walking the Walk
I’ve been writing fiction for nearly a decade. By that, I mean writing for publishing. I’ve been a writer all of my life. Anyway, a few years ago I was reading a popular erotica novel. What I read was so absurd, I forced my husband to read it. He understood why I was appalled. The author clearly hadn’t physically done what she was writing about. Just…the physicality of it was wrong.
Not only that, the character never grew. Ever. You don’t go from virgin to butt pirate without a change in vernacular.

Audio Books: The New Frontier for Erotica?
When audio books became available, first as tape cassettes, then CDs, and finally, digital files, there was scant motivation for me to partake of them because I really enjoy reading. Indeed, I questioned why anyone would prefer to listen to a book when reading is so pleasurable. Replacing recreational or educational books with audio versions did not resonate with me at all.
There are, of course, people for whom audio books make perfect sense, such as the blind or those whose eyesight is impaired drastically. For them, audio is a far better option than Braille. People born with dyslexia, a condition that makes reading extremely difficult and definitely not enjoyable, also benefit from them. And those who are primarily auditory learners would do well to indulge in audio books to optimize their learning experience.
