Hello! I am Leigh Ellwood and I’m please to be at Erotica for All talking about my latest release, Dare to Act. This is my first publication with Ravenous Romance and, at this writing, my longest M/M erotic work. While it is tied into a series of books I have written set in the fictional town of Dareville, Virginia, one doesn’t necessarily have to read the other books to know the way around town. Of course, I won’t discourage anybody from buying the other books! 😉

The first book in this series, Truth or Dare, was published in 2004, which means I’m close to a full decade of writing erotic romance. Some days it amazes me that I’ve come this far in my writing, especially when I have trouble stringing a sentence together. In the case of Dare to Act, I found this was an especially challenging work because (unlike with other books I’ve written) I did not outline in advance. There are pantsers and plotters, and I’d say I fall somewhere in between.

The idea for this story happened a few years ago, while watching the Academy Awards and studying how certain actors reacted to the announced winners and other events during the show. From there I got the idea of an actor who did not react the way his peers expected to, and that branched off to a self-imposed exile in order to plan his move. Originally I had this character reconnecting with a lost love, but decided in the end for him to meet somebody new. I couldn’t tell you why I chose that path – likely because I’ve read a number of “coming home” books where the hero/ine returns to reclaim a lost love, and I want to try something different.

So far my experience with Ravenous, a new publisher to me, has been positive. My editor, a Lambda Literary Award winner, was incredibly supportive through the entire process, and I look forward to sending her my next work, another Dareville story – only this one is an MMF menage.
