Riding High is an erotic romance novel from Zara Stoneley. It tells the story of Roisin Grant, a recently widowed woman who’s finding out more about her husband than she ever wanted to know. For example, he has a stash of home movies with him as the star, and worse yet, he’s left her bankrupt. Deep down, she knows her beloved riding school is going to have to go, but she expects she’ll have a little time to let it all sink in. When Saul Mathews turns up, however, she discovers she has no time at all – the man announces he owns the property and she needs to get out immediately.
Fortunately, though, Saul has a heart. And a bit of a soft spot for Roisin. He gives her a way of staying on at her home and equestrian business, but it’s not exactly a traditional idea, and Roisin’s not sure if she can go through with it. How far will she go to save her livelihood and her home?
Despite the themes of this book – death and bankruptcy – being somewhat depressing, Riding High is good fun. The various elements throughout come together nicely and give the reader an engaging, refreshing and sexy read. The characters are likeable – even when they’re not really supposed to be – and you find yourself rooting for them and hoping they’ll get a happy ending. Recommended if you like an erotic romance with a difference.
