Here’s an author interview from [intlink id=”185″ type=”post”]Brita Addams[/intlink].
Take it away Brita…
- How did you start writing erotica?
It was about a year ago that I started writing erotica, though I’ve been a fan *wink*
- What’s your favourite published work of yours and why?
I think it would have to be Chocolate, Tea and the Duchess. I love the male characters in this one (not that I don’t love all my characters). Phillip is a broken man and Alex is just the medicine he needs.
- What erotic authors do you enjoy reading?
I love Keta Diablo, though she doesn’t write erotic romance exclusively. Her historicals are wonderful.
- Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I suppose from every day live. I see stories in many places. I have dozens and dozens of index cards with storylines on them. I should live so long.
- Do you have any unusual writing rituals?
Not really. I do write in quiet, but other than that, nothing special.
- Where’s your favourite place to write?
I have one side of the sofa and half the back, which holds my notes, card box and other necessities. I write on my laptop, nice and cozy.
- Who is your favourite character from one of your stories and why?
I have to say, my favorite character is in a book I wrote under my real name, Tina Ordone. Jeremy Saintaubin from Her Timeless Obsession is charming, romantic and so much like my husband, I can’t help but love him so much.
- Do your nearest and dearest know what you do, and if so, what was their reaction when they found out?
My entire family knows what I write, my husband has read most of what I write and they are all super supportive. Our youngest daughter, who is an adult, lives with us and between her and my husband, they are my biggest supporters. My other children, their spouses and my siblings are all terrific.
- What was your ideal career when you were a child?
I wanted to be an airline stewardess, then a nurse.
- How do you get yourself in the mood to write?
I have a cup of coffee settle in to write. There isn’t any mood to it.
- What’s the best writing tip you’ve ever been given?
Sit your butt in the chair and write.
- If you get writer’s block when you’re writing, how do you get around it?
I’ve never had writer’s block. My muse is a busy sort.
- If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?
Hmm. I think it would have to be Prentice Hyde from Lord Decadent’s Obsession. He is quite the charmer and he resembles my fave actor, Tyrone Power.
- Which author, erotic or otherwise would you love to meet and why?
Again, Keta Diablo. She is a wonderful woman and has been a good friend as well. She very generous to authors. It would be a privilege to meet her and have a nice conversation with her.
- What’s your favourite genre within erotica and why?
I love historicals. I like erotica. It’s a great combination.
- What are you working on at the moment?
I’m actually working on a sensual historical, writing it under my real name. It’s something I’ve had partially written for a long time, but I’ve decided to finish it. It’s actually the very first storyline I ever decided to write.
- What’s the biggest writing challenge you’ve ever taken on?
The greatest challenge was to write my three book series, the Sapphire Club. Trying to keep all the dates, ages, and facts in order took many index cards, because I can’t depend on memory with so many characters, incidents, places, hair colors, etc.
Did you succeed?
I did succeed. I’m very pleased with Serenity’s Dream, Lord Decadent’s Obsession and Chocolate, Tea and the Duchess. The books have appeared on several best selling lists at Amazon, All Romance E-Books and Bookstrand and readers and reviewers and I’m very pleased with their reception with readers.
- What’s your biggest writing achievement?
I’ll have five books published this year, my first year of taking publication seriously. It will be four Brita Addams books and one Tina Ordone book. In January, there will be another Brita Addams book.
- Why?
I’ve always wanted to write, been discouraged along the way and lost faith in my ability. My husband has always encouraged me and he is beaming now that I listened.
