How did you start writing erotica?
I started writing erotica at my editor’s suggestion. By then I had twenty some books published that were sensual, so erotic would be a step beyond. I debated a while, and decided I needed the challenge. Erotica is not easy. There are different stages of it and I stuck to the guidelines of Ellora’s Cave Twilight series. Erotic but not vulgar. It’s been fun….
What’s your favourite published work of yours and why?
My favorite published work is Druid’s Daughter, the first book I had accepted by Ellora’s Cave. EC is the biggest e-book publisher in the world and getting on their author’s list was huge to me. And I loved my Druids, still do!
What erotic authors do you enjoy reading?
What erotic writers do I enjoy? Can’t think of any I don’t! Desiree Holt, Cris Anson, Stephanie Blake, and of course Anne Rice. I read voraciously. But not always erotica. Sensual romance is good, too, in fact it’s sometimes hard for me to draw the line between sensual and mild erotica.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I can’t really answer this question as I don’t know what inspires me. Nor do I have any unusual writing rituals. I have a corner of my family room with my computer, a book shelf alongside with a printer on top, and books overflowing the table beside me. I do e-mail and promo in the morning, break for lunch and other good stuff like shopping, and often write ‘til ten in the evening.
Who is your favourite character from one of your stories and why?
I’d have to pick Morgan from my first Druid novel, Druid’s Daughter as my favorite character. The book is set in 1898 but she’s no meek pushover. But then all my heroines end up feisty, even if they don’t start out that way.
Do your nearest and dearest know what you do, and if so, what was their reaction when they found out?
My family’s response to my writing erotica amuses me. My daughter and son can’t bring themselves to read the erotica. I tease them all the time about being prudes. My husband died before I started erotica, but I think he’d be amused. He’d definitely read it as he was my beta editor. I’ve never though of covering up the fact of what I write. That would be pure hypocrisy to me.
What was your ideal career when you were a child?
I can’t remember when I didn’t want to write, and knew I someday would. I wrote my first novel at 15, and fortunately it’s disappeared. I’m sure it was dreadful. I do remember the heroine was named Aurora and I thought that terribly original.
What’s the best writing tip you’ve ever been given?
The best writing tip I’ve ever been given, and it is the best, so listen up! I had a chance to ask Mary Balogh once what she did when she got stuck in the middle of a book. She thought a moment and then said, “Make it worse”.
If you get writer’s block, how do you get around it?
I rarely have writer’s block, but when I do there’s not much way to get out until your muse decides to play nice again. I don’t stop writing, but it’s junk and I know while I’m writing it’s junk. Then one day you realize you’re writing sense again.
If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?
If I could bring a character to life? It would be Lars, the sexy, long-haired, pointy eared elf who started the Passionate Pursuit series. He has a lot to answer for. I’m currently writing book eight in that series, to be called Defiant Pursuit, about Lars granddaughter Frida. She’s got a real temper, so I’m handling her carefully. My biggest challenge to date has been learning to write erotica without it sounding stilted, or even worse, vulgar.

Excerpt:
At this point he didn’t care what anyone thought. He took off his shoes and socks, and then his white gown. Down to his shirt and pants, he made quick work of them also. Vicky was not far behind him, but she’d only shed her nurse’s uniform and her shoes and hose when he was on her. His rampant cock was about to burst through his undershorts, and she tried to help by caressing it through the cloth, then putting her eager fingers in the slot.
Vale batted her hands away and stepped out of his shorts, releasing his turgid cock so it pointed directly at her. Grabbing her panties he ripped them down, then pulled her slip over her head. Pausing only a second to admire her exposed body, he lay his head on her stomach.
“Love, you’d harden a dead man. How do you stay so enticing?”
She didn’t answer, just reached down for his cock and caressed the pulsing head. Vale was too far gone for much foreplay, but he allowed her to tighten her fingers and run them up and down his erection for several seconds. Then she moaned and that finished him. He plunged his cock into her already wet cunt and rejoiced when she wrapped her arms and legs around him in welcome.
She was wet and aroused and he knew instinctively this was going to be an exceptional joining. Although they’d always more than enjoyed their sexual matings, sometimes one seemed to stand out. This was definitely one of those times.”
