Here’s an author interview from Tonya Kinzer.
Take it away, Tonya…
- How did you start writing erotica?
I started by writing short erotic stories for hubby, then decided to make them longer. First, I love writing romance, second…I find it a challenge to write a story that will pull readers into the scenes with my characters. I write what some refer to as soft bondage but is still BDSM. The Dom/sub role playing, or lifestyle for some, is what I find interesting. I’m not into pain so you won’t find things like skin puncturing or burning or mutilation in my stories…safe, sane, consensual.
- What’s your favourite published work of yours and why?
Sharing Among Friends, book three in The Boss’s Pet series, would be my favorite but I love each book and the characters. I think everyone has fantasized about being shared by and with someone, it’s sexy and filled with fun to think about what might happen for us to experience.
- What erotic authors do you enjoy reading?
Your books, of course, they’re erotic and sexy and make my mind go in so many directions (Lucy: Thanks! *blushes*) ! Thanks for that! *wink* I also enjoy Cherise Sinclair, Lani Rhea, Brenda Woody and Steve Tindle who write as a team so their stories include both male and female POVs!
- Where do you draw your inspiration from?
My imagination has always keep me entertained and I write what I think about or would like to experience…our fantasies get us in all kinds of trouble, don’t they? I’m lucky that I get to write about them!
- Do you have any unusual writing rituals?
Not really but after surfing a few sexy bondage sites, it does get the imagination fueled faster!
- Where’s your favourite place to write?
That would have to be my office at home. I have everything I need within reach – my calendar, dark chocolate stash, all office supplies and then coffee of course. At night I might grab a glass of wine!
- Who is your favourite character from one of your stories and why?
Sondra is my favorite character. I relate very easy to her and I suppose she’s a lot like me. Authors usually put a bit of themselves into their characters plus I get to enjoy the fun she has that I may be too shy to experience!
- Do your nearest and dearest know what you do, and if so, what was their reaction when they found out?
NO THEY DON’T! Only hubby and a few close authors know I write as Tonya. My kids would die if they found out I write BDSM and get as graphic as I do but my readers love all of it! Thank your readers! YOU are who I write for!
- What was your ideal career when you were a child?
Now that’s interesting because I always wanted to be a secretary when I grew up! Now I’m the Boss’s Pet! *wicked laugh* I guess it’s easy to write about the secretary and the boss because it’s what I know…along with what goes on behind those doors! *wink*
- How do you get yourself in the mood to write?
Luckily, I’m usually always in the mood to write and when I’m at the office and can’t write…it just makes me crazy. I do jot down a few notes and email them to myself for later when I do start writing. On the rare occasion that I need some help getting the muse interested, she just takes me to a few of those wonderful BDSM sites!
- What’s the best writing tip you’ve ever been given?
The best advice is to stick with one or two main Points of View….when you head hop that just makes your reader dizzy. Don’t do that. And don’t start your sentences with she/he all the time, vary your sentence structure. Using all five senses is important, too. Let your readers smell or taste what the characters do.
- If you get writer’s block when you’re writing, how do you get around it?
I’m fortunate that I don’t get writer’s block often but when it does happen, I do a “What if” scenario and just write down what comes to mind no matter how crazy or fitting it is. That’s the best way to jar writer’s block.
- If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?
I think I’d like that to be Sondra. I just think she’d be a kickass friend! She smart and beautiful…and loves her Boss.
- What’s your favourite genre within erotica and why?
That would have to be soft bondage. I’m not into pain and my readers will quickly realize that once they start reading the series. Don’t whack my ass til I bleed, you might not wake up in the morning!
- What are you working on at the moment?
I’m just getting started on a western and will probably make that a series too. It’ll be erotic and I’m not sure yet if those ranch hands will tie their submissives to the barn beam in the loft or not so my readers will just have to wait and see!
- What’s the biggest writing challenge you’ve ever taken on? Did you succeed?
Self publishing is a challenge in itself and I’m proud to say that my books are at several locations and doing well. I know there are many more readers I have to reach yet so thank you for having me here so I can chat with your readers. I also do my own covers, book trailers, book marks, post cards, web sites and still manage to keep the Boss happy! *wicked laugh*
- What’s your biggest writing achievement? Why?
Each time I complete a manuscript is an achievement! I also write under another name in another genre and keep them separate for obvious reasons! Tonya just writes the naughty stuff the other author can’t do and she loves it! *wink* Thank you so much for having me here!
***Readers, leave a comment to be in the drawing! I’m giving away e-books 1 & 2 to two readers on Saturday!***
