In the seventh of a series of interviews with authors from Smut by the Sea Volume 3, I’d like to welcome Demelza Hart. Take it away, Demelza…
If you could go on holiday to any beach in the world where would you go?
I live in the south west of England near some amazing beaches, and know that if I were away from them, I’d want to go back. But if I were to go abroad, I’d probably choose the Florida west coast as I had some very happy times there as a child.
What’s your favourite beach memory?
Just being on a beach creates a memorable experience. Every time I visit with my family it’s wonderful, but I have special memories of beachside meals and watching the sun set over the ocean. Looking out to sea always puts things in perspective. Although I only live a few minutes’ drive from the coast, I don’t live directly on it, but we once hired a cottage right beside the sea near Land’s End, and listening to the constant low roar of the Atlantic as I went to sleep at night was really special.
You’re taking a stroll along the sea front, what are you eating?
Probably a pasty (or an ice-cream covered in clotted cream if I’m feeling really naughty).
Who would you like to see in skimpy speedos/ teeny tiny bikini?
Aidan Turner is filming nearby at the moment, so I live in hope that I’ll bump into him. If he’s wearing speedos, then that’s an added bonus!
On the beach do you prefer sunbathing or more vigorous activities?
I don’t really enjoy sunbathing as such, but I’ll sit/lie and relax and read. I do like swimming in the sea and can’t be bothered with wetsuits. I’ve developed a tolerance for icy cold water over the years! If the water’s warm, I could stay in for ages.
Sun or shade?
Shade, although in Britain there’ll always be a breeze coming off the sea, so you probably need a bit of sun to offset that.
What inspired your story in Smut by the Sea vol 3?
Caving In was inspired entirely by the coastline near where I live and the gorgeous lifeguards who watch over us. There are a few I’d like to watch over! I had particular places in mind when I wrote it, although the end result is a mixture of several. I didn’t have a particular life guard in mind – they’re all rather lovely as far as I can tell. Alice, the main character, has come to the coast to put things in perspective, like I do. When she is stranded in a cave over night by the rising tide, Rafe, a young lifeguard, comes to her rescue and really brings things into focus!

Author Bio:
Demelza Hart has been writing erotica and erotic romance for several years, but only relatively recently had the guts to submit to publishers. Luckily, they didn’t laugh in her face, so she’s carried on. The third part of her trilogy, Suited to You, came out earlier this year. She is happiest in her writing when exploring sexual tension and a slow build-up towards the inevitable. If she can include an historical element, then all the better. She is very smutty and lives by the sea.
