In the sixth of a series of interviews with authors from Smut by the Sea Volume 3, I’d like to welcome Slave Nano. Take it away, Nano…
If you could go on holiday in any beach in the world where would you go?
I’m a great fan of British beaches, often more unspoilt and more beautiful than anything you’ll find on the Med. I like the beaches around Pembrokeshire, but perhaps Portmerion in Wales, as I love the architecture of the village and I’m a great fan of the 60s cult tv programme ‘The Prisoner’, which was filmed there. I’ve done the thing of running across the sands imagining I’m being chased by a giant rubber ball!
What is your favourite beach memory?
Most of my favourite memories are either as a child or with my children, so nothing sexy I’m afraid! One year the kids built a sandcastle with a massive wall around it hoping to prevent the tide washing it away. They stood in the castle waving their spades at the sea like demented Neptunes commanding the tide to stop. All in vain of course! Once they realised, they took to joining in the savage demolition of the castle as the tide did its inevitable work. It was very funny to watch.
You’re taking a stroll along the sea front, what are you eating?
Easy, ice cream, ice cream, ice cream…every time!
Who would you like to see in teeny tiny bikini?
Natasha Khan, the singer in Bat for Lashes.
On the beach do you prefer sunbathing or more rigorous activities?
Do you need to ask following my plunge after Smut by the Sea this year! I love swimming in the sea. So alternating between the sun and long lazy swims – preferably in warmer water than the North Sea though!
Sun or shade?
Definitely sun…I love it when it’s hot. I have been known to drag the family around archaeological sites in the mid-day sun in temperatures of 30 plus degrees as they melt…yes, ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’, that’s me!
What inspired your story in Smut by the Sea vol.3
The rock pools around Flamborough Head on the Yorkshire coast. Not easy to get down to the rock pool reef now as the cliffs are eroding but there used to be a path down. It’s magical. At low tide the area is vast and it really does feel like you’re in another world, just as it does for Laura and Josh in my story.

Really must bag a copy and read everyone else’s stories. I am impressed by the length of the title you got away with 🙂
