Bertram Fox is a craftsman, trader, father and invalid carer: in his scanty spare time he sometimes manages to write. Over the years he has built a house, run a farm, lived in a group marriage, made swords and fetters, raised three children, owned male and female collared slaves, started several businesses a few of which are still trading, and fought the law and won.  At the age of 60 he has achieved his childhood ambition to be a dirty old man.
