Taken InTaken In is an intriguing story about what happens when the supernaturals take over the world. They’ve forced the humans to serve them, and in short, it’s really not a safe time to be a human – except at a place called the Store Front, where a level of protection is afforded. It’s not ideal, as they’re forced to feed and have sex with the supernaturals – but it’s safer than going it alone in the outside world.

Kitty works at the Store Front, and has a pretty miserable existence. The only bright points in her life are when wolf shifter, Vic, and his best friend, vampire Gale, visit her. She loves being with them, and when she’s not, longs for the moment when they will come to her again.

The wolf and vampire adore Kitty, and want to take her away from the Store Front, but realise that convincing her they’re not just using her will be tough. But they’ve still got to try…

This was an enjoyable short paranormal tale, packed with action, romance and hot sex scenes. It was a unique take on a paranormal read, and one I’d recommend to fans of the genre.

Steal Your Soul AwaySteal Your Soul Away is a short paranormal story from Elizabeth Coldwell, and was first published in the Wild After Dark collection from Totally Bound Publishing.

This is the tale of Angelique, a two hundred year old vampire currently working in Brighton as a burlesque dancer. She’s always kept a distance from the people who come to see her show – that is, until she lays eyes on sculptor, Tom. Somehow, he’s different, and he intrigues her. His friend, Lucas, also piques her interest, but, being a werewolf, disgusts her at the same time. Particularly when she discovers that Tom doesn’t know his closest friend is a werewolf.

Against her usual self-imposed rules, she begins seeing Tom, doing her best to ignore Lucas’s presence. But when it becomes apparent that Tom knows there’s something between them, he tries to persuade Angelique that Lucas isn’t so bad, after all. But can the three of them put their differences aside and work something out?

I always enjoy Elizabeth Coldwell’s work, and this is no exception. It’s dark, dirty and intriguing, well-written and sexy, as always, and I’d definitely recommend it to fans of erotic paranormal tales.

eBook Review: Beyond the Poison Chalice by Helena Maeve

Beyond the Poison ChaliceBeyond the Poison Chalice is a short paranormal story by Helena Maeve, first published in the Wild After Dark anthology from Totally Bound Publishing, then released as a standalone story. It tells the tale of Claudia Salizar, a woman charged with keeping peace between vampires, werewolves and humans in the streets of St. Louis. She’s tough and determined, and is doing a great job, until two intruders turn up in the city that could derail everything she’s worked for.

Despite her eagerness to get the two intruders – human Silver and werewolf Lucan – out of the vampire quarter as quickly as possible, she ends up sheltering them at her place temporarily, until it’s safe to move them. But once the three of them are in close proximity, it soon becomes apparent there’s more to Silver than meets the eye, and his companion is equally intriguing. Can Claudia resist the temptation for the sake of peace in her city?

This is an engaging and intriguing read. In this instance, the story focused on the three characters and there here and now, which was very enjoyable, but I also found myself wondering about their back stories. If the author were to write more tales about these characters, I’d definitely like to read them. Overall, an intriguing and sexy read, one I’d recommend to fans of short paranormal books.
