Earlier this year, I was invited to contribute to an m/m anthology with a group of fellow British writers. The premise was simple: British boys, on British locations, written by British authors. I was thrilled to be involved and immediately started thinking about what novella I would write.

I live in Devon, England, which also happens to be the same place the Royal Marine Commando School is located. I’ve driven past the tall, wire fences, and the Marines in the guard house on numerous occasions. I also grew up as a teenager who experienced the weekends in the city when the Marines were on leave! But to be truthful, I hadn’t given the place much thought until Channel 4 released a multi-part series covering the life of the Marines as they entered the Commando School. It’s not even the sort of program I would normally watch, but my documentary-mad husband insisted on watching it. Cue me not really paying much attention, right up until the point all the guys had to get naked in the shower together while the Drill Instructor gave them step by step instruction on how to wash their cocks, followed by another scene of the recruits standing stark-naked beside their beds while the same Instructor informed them that a Marine always sleeps naked!
