Sometimes, I sit and wonder what my life would be like if I didn’t write. Of course, there was a time when I didn’t, so I kind of know. Between leaving school (where I did most of my writing) and having four children, going to work part time, I didn’t have the energy or enthusiasm to pick it back up again. I still kept a daily diary, though, but then one day, when my fourth child was two weeks old, something nudged me to write again. I think it was after a book I’d read had inspired me and it reignited the spark. My sister gave me a typewriter—I’m sure it was her, and thank God she did!—and I managed to scrabble enough money together to buy some paper. Times were hard back then, so buying that paper meant I gave up a couple of my meals.

The Magic of the Kitchen Table by Ashe Barker
I’m always interested to know what places other authors prefer to do their writing. The choices are many and varied. My favourite place to write is my kitchen table.
I work from home (I also do other things apart from writing – bills do need to be paid) and I have a separate office complete with huge desk, a meeting table, internet connection, a view of the West Yorkshire moors, the lot. But I don’t like it in there. It’s just too business-like so I avoid it if I can. I prefer to set my laptop up on the kitchen table, in among the breakfast things, and work there.
To be fair, I have quite a large kitchen, with an even better view of the moors from the window. And of course the kettle is handy which is important to me.

Food and Sex by Lisabet Sarai
Welcome to my blog tour for my new novel The Ingredients of Bliss. What’s the book about? Well, some might say it focuses on the dual pleasures of food and sex.
My heroine, Mei Lee “Emily” Wong, is a French-trained chef from Hong Kong who is invited to America to appear on a cooking show with the famous Gallic foodie, Etienne Duvalier. A culinary traditionalist, Etienne scorns Emily’s more creative approach to cooking. Emily has a tendency to add unconventional ingredients like ginger or water chestnuts to classic French dishes. Although the results are usually delicious, Etienne believes the standard recipes that have immortalized French cuisine should not be tampered with.
