Eighty Days WhiteEighty Days White is another companion novel to the original titles. It deals with another character we’ve briefly met – Lily, the girl with the teardrop tattoo. We follow her on her journey from her days as a student in Brighton to London and a life of sexual discovery.

There are kinks abound in this book – voyeurism, exhibitionism, female domination, male domination, submission, spanking and much, much more. You learn more about Lily with each new chapter, and actually feel sorry for her at the points where things aren’t going her way. However, her sexual and sensual escapades more than counteract this and it’s fascinating to watch how Lily eventually comes to realise who she is, what she likes, and how she embraces it. There are many false starts and lots of world travel involved, but it all comes together in a very satisfying ending.

Eighty Days White was another interesting addition to the series. It wasn’t my favourite, I must admit, but I suspect this is because I didn’t like the characters as much as I did in some of the previous books. It’s still a great, well-written novel and is worth a read, particularly if you enjoyed the others in the collection.

Eighty Days AmberEighty Days Amber is the fourth book in the Eighty Days series. Readers of the previous books will already be acquainted with the main character of this one – Russian dancer, Luba. This is her story, from how she ended up leaving Russia and moving to America, what events conspired to put her in a New Orleans club when Dominik and Summer were there, and how, finally, she came to bump into Summer again. It’s a life story, really, but a much more interesting one than most.

Eighty Days Amber is not my favourite of this series, but I can’t quite put my finger on why. There is certainly plenty of action, both of the sexual and cleaner kinds, and even the occasional bout of humour. Perhaps I just didn’t engage with Luba as a character, I don’t know. But regardless of this, I would still say give this book a read, especially if you’ve read and enjoyed the others, as it’s a great insight into the world the characters inhabit, and ties up some of the loose ends that were no doubt deliberately left trailing in the previous novels.

Sexy, exciting and interesting, Eighty Days Amber is another great addition to the series, giving us more information on the characters we’ve been introduced to so far, as well as a comprehensive backstory on Luba. Now onto Eighty Days White.

Book Review: Eighty Days Red by Vina Jackson

Eighty Days RedWhen I first heard about this series, I believed it would be a trilogy, so I was a tad confused when this was changed. However, I now get it. This is still a trilogy, of sorts, with Eighty Days Red being the last in a certain storyline. The next books go on to deal with different characters, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Anyway, onto this book. Eighty Days Red, in my opinion, is the best of these three books which deal with Summer and Dominik. As always, the pair of them flit around the world, and meet each other in London, Brighton and Paris, with their relationship still being incredibly complicated. What brings them back together in the first place is Summer’s violin. It’s stolen, and when Dominik finds out, he’s as distraught as Summer, and resolves to help find it, which opens up a whole new story for Dominik, which he decides to write about in his next novel.

Once they’ve seen one another, the pair of them find the attraction impossible to deny. But can they get past all the obstacles that stand between them, or are they destined to be apart?

It goes without saying that this book is well written. It deals with a multitude of characters, situations and locations, all of which are fast-paced and fascinating. I’m not saying any more because I don’t want to give any spoilers. This was a great read and wrapped up the trilogy very nicely – I’m looking forward to reading Eighty Days Amber now.

Book Review: Eighty Days Yellow by Vina Jackson (Reviewed by Lily Harlem)

Eighty Days YellowI tend only to read in the evening, but a couple of times a year a book calls to me during the day, pulling me from chores and capturing my mind. Eighty Days Yellow was one such book, and I found myself abandoning tasks in order to secret myself away and pour over the pages.

Summer and Dominik, the two main characters, called to me from the word go. Summer in particular was easy to relate to and invest in even though her voyage of sexual discovery was a difficult one. There were times when it was hard to understand her motives, particularly near the end with Victor who she didn’t seem to care for, but still I stood by her, eager to know the outcome of her decisions and willing her to do the right thing. This was all part of her story and I was there for the ride.

Dominik, a very apt name for a Dom, was complex. He has a gentle heart and also a certain maleness to his inner monologue that made him incredibly believable. I enjoyed how his control over Summer could be harsh yet tender, he was fascinated by her mind and her newly discovered urge to submit. The scenes with Charlotte highlight Dominik’s obsession with Summer all the more, his abstract affection for  Charlotte almost cruel, though as a reader, this suited me when it came to this secondary character. She was the friend who wasn’t really a friend, just someone who used others as puppets in her own show.

The pace of Eighty Days Yellow is smooth. It pulls you in and keeps you there as it ticks along at a steady rate. The narration switches between first and third person point of view, delving deep into the minds of both protagonists. I liked this, being able to enjoy different angles to a story appeals to me. The writing is sumptuous, with many, many lovely lines. The sex scenes are explicit and graphic while still holding a personal feel to them, I always knew what Summer and/or Dominik was feeling. It was erotic, undoubtedly, in a very raw, honest and contemporary way.

In summary, if you’re looking for a well-written tale about a man falling for a woman and hoping to have her willingly submit to him mind, body and soul, then Eighty Days Yellow is a great place to start. Now I have the next two books in the trilogy to look forward to and since Eighty Days Yellow felt like the first few steps of a journey, I can’t wait!

Eighty Days BlueI thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Eighty Days Yellow, so I was looking forward to this one, too. It continues the story of Summer Zahova and Dominik, an unpredictable, fiery, dom/sub couple.

Summer is now living in New York, many, many miles away from Dominik, who is still in London. She’s a violinist with a major orchestra, which she enjoys very much. Under the tutelage of her talented and attractive conductor, her career goes from strength to strength. However, the rise of her career does not help her love life one bit. The distance between her and Dominik, although physically diminished, grows emotionally. Can the two of them overcome their multiple issues, or does this spell the end of the road for them?

Although this book wasn’t quite as enjoyable as the first in the series, it was still very good. I enjoyed the physical and emotional journeys the characters went on, and the twists and turns in the plot. I’m very interested to see where the next book takes Summer and Dominik.

Overall, if you’re looking for a new erotic romance series to get your teeth into, you should check out the Eighty Days books – but make sure you read them in order.

Book Review: Eighty Days Yellow by Vina Jackson

Eighty Days YellowEighty Days Yellow is another book with the “If You Liked Fifty Shades” flash on the cover. It’s also a trilogy. This is where the similarity ends.

The book is written by two popular authors who have teamed up and penned under a pseudonym. This is the story of violinist Summer Zahova. She’s from New Zealand and lives in London. She makes money by working part-time jobs and busking in the London Underground. She’s in a relationship with a man who doesn’t understand her and can’t accept her for who she is. Therefore, the story truly begins when Summer breaks off the relationship and soon meets Dominik.

Dominik is a dom, and after hearing Summer play in an Underground station, he wants her. Her music captivated him, as did the fact that she was completely unaware of her surroundings when she played. He contacts her via Facebook after hearing of a mishap which caused her violin to be destroyed, promising to replace it if she will accept his challenge.

From there, the whirlwind affair begins. Dominik poses many challenges for Summer, which she accepts, some more willingly than others. But she accepts because she wants to please him. She doesn’t believe she’s a true submissive, but still spends a great deal of time exploring her dark side both with and without Dominik. It’s wild, it’s kinky, and surprisingly, it’s also tender in places.

So although the love story isn’t as traditional as some others, there’s definitely a type of love within the pages of the book. It’s just all mixed in with the BDSM and head games. If you’re looking for a well-written, erotic and engaging read, you should definitely check out Eighty Days Yellow. I’ll definitely be reading the next two books in the series.
