Sometimes, I sit and wonder what my life would be like if I didn’t write. Of course, there was a time when I didn’t, so I kind of know. Between leaving school (where I did most of my writing) and having four children, going to work part time, I didn’t have the energy or enthusiasm to pick it back up again. I still kept a daily diary, though, but then one day, when my fourth child was two weeks old, something nudged me to write again. I think it was after a book I’d read had inspired me and it reignited the spark. My sister gave me a typewriter—I’m sure it was her, and thank God she did!—and I managed to scrabble enough money together to buy some paper. Times were hard back then, so buying that paper meant I gave up a couple of my meals.

He cleared his throat and stepped closer. “You know, Mads, watching you fawn over my car, stroking her, makes me hot. I can hear every breath you take and sigh you release over her. It’s sexy as hell.”

I love me some Sommer Marsden. I haven’t yet read a book of hers that I haven’t liked, and this one is no exception. The Accidental Cougar tells the story of Abby, an early-forties woman who’s just come out of a twenty-plus-year marriage and is just learning how to cope with the huge change to her life.
When she meets Charlie, though, things are turned upside down. He’s gorgeous, funny and is attracted to her – but he’s only just older than her kids. Abby’s just as attracted to Charlie, but really struggles to get past the age gap between them. Can she manage it before Charlie gets fed up of being messed around and moves on?
This was a fantastic read. Told in Marsden’s typical engaging, true-to-life style, I was immediately pulled into the story as I learned about Abby and her background. She’s an incredibly likeable character, with flaws and insecurities, and I found myself seriously rooting for her throughout.
Charlie’s adorable, too. Cute, sexy, and fun, he’s so hot for Abby that you can almost feel it radiating off the page! I rooted for Charlie, too, finding myself hoping he’d get what he wanted. I’m not going to give any spoilers, however, so I’ll just round off this review by saying this is a down-to-earth, funny, sexy, smart book that any fan of erotic romance should have on their eReader.

eBook Review: Black Dog (Bannon’s Gym) by Cat Grant
Black Dog is book one in Cat Grant’s Bannon’s Gym series, and based on this, I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the books. This is gay erotic romance with some serious testosterone – and I’m not just talking about in the bedroom.
This book tells the story of Danny Bannon and Eddie Roscoe – two guys with an on-off relationship, a whole lot of baggage and plenty of stubbornness.
Their apparent stalemate is shaken up by the arrival of Tom Delaney, a teenager that Eddie finds living on the streets. Eddie, unwilling to let the kid carry on living that way, takes him in, gives him a job and a chance at a better life.
Tom gravitates towards Danny’s gym and shows himself to be a more than competent fighter, both boxing and martial arts. It seems to be an outlet for his anger, his resentment at his past, and Danny and Eddie seem to bond over looking after the neglected teenager, becoming stand in big brothers.
However, Tom’s past suddenly comes rushing back to him, and he doesn’t deal with it too well – can Danny and Eddie present a united front to help prevent Tom from crashing and burning?
This is an intriguing story and an easy read, despite some of the more heart-rending elements of the storyline. I found Grant’s writing style to be engaging, the plotting unique and very real, with some surprises, and the ending satisfying. I’ll definitely be checking out more of Grant’s work, starting with the next books in this series. I’d recommend this to gay romance fans – the heat level isn’t high, but the focus of this book is the storyline, not the sex.
